A large pub with several rooms, including a non-smoking area well-separated from the main bar. Serves several beers from handpumps from a wide range of breweries. Friendly atmosphere.

The Wellington

An excellent city-centre pub selling a wide range of cask ales. The beers are labelled according to their colour and 'weight', with the information displayed on a large flat screen near the bar. The pub website lists the beers and is updated in real time. No food is served, but plates and cutlery are provided if you bring your own. Very friendly.

The Cambridge Blue

A friendly pub with a relaxed atmosphere. No smoking and no mobile phone policy. Wide range of cask ales on sale, though it has been reported in recent times that the variety of beers available is in decline. The only lager sold is obscure and continental. Has a large beer garden (with animals) and an open fire.

The Kingston Arms

Primary outlet for Lidstones Brewery. Can be smoky inside, but serves a vast range of cask ales including mild. Small but pleasant beer garden. Within 5 minutes' walk of the Cambridge Blue.

A small-ish pub with a nice atmosphere, although it can be very busy at peak periods. An excellent variety of good real ales is usually on offer, though, as is an impressive selection of Kettle Chips (a menu is provided!).

This pub is slightly away from the City Centre but well worth the walk. There is a good range of beers on offer including those by Tomos Watkin brewery.

The Goat Major

A friendly Brains pub serving well-kept Brains pints, including Brains Dark. The odd name is related to the pub's military connections and explained by photographs inside.

Despite a promising eight hand-pumps, this pub sold no hand-pulled bitters when visited on 10/01/04. There were also no carbonated drinks owing to equipment failure, and much of the food was also not available.

The Steinbach is a microbrewery as well as a pub, and the beers served on tap are brewed on the premises. There is also a good range of food served. Large outdoor drinking area available in the summer.

Wheelers Pub

Friendly British-style pub serving Guinness, John Smith's and Foster's as well as nice beers such as Köstritzer Schwarzbier. Good food is also served. There is a comfortable back bar.

A friendly pub right in the centre of town (opposite the main entrance to the Oracle shopping centre). There is a small outdoor area at the front of the pub and a cosy interior with many small rooms, displaying an impressive collection of pump clips from around the country. A large range of very well-kept real ales is on offer.

Between the station and the town centre, this pub looks small on the outside but stretches back a long way. There is an open coal-effect fire in the front room. It is a friendly pub and serves well-kept hand-pulled beers.

The Village Free House

Conveniently close to the station (5-10 mins' walk), this friendly pub has a railway theme. There are numerous cask ales served from handpumps (and directly from a barrel on the bar).

The Wyndham Arms

This pub used to be the brewery tap of the Hop Back brewery, and all the usual Hop Back beers are on sale. The interior consists of several small, connected rooms, as if it has been converted from a house.

A traditional pub separated into "public bar" and "lounge" areas at the front and rear. Serves five or so real ales (often with a guest beer), which are generally kept in good condition. The Spittal Brook is dog-friendly and has a beer garden.

The Stafford Arms

The Stafford Arms used to be a friendly pub witin easy reach of the station, serving Titanic beers and usually a few guests too. Now about to be demolished and turned into a car-park (Nov 2007).

A locals' pub situated near to Brunel's 'railway village', The Glue Pot is friendly and stocks a wide range (6 or so) of real ales including good stouts. It also sells food. It is conveniently near to Swindon station.
